SYM 7 contains all the proven features that characterize a Scantrol system, but we have built the system on a completely new platform and added many new features that you will benefit from now and in the future.
We have added Symmetry Control of up to 7 trawls, built in a Vessel Motion Sensor, and prepared the system for working together with the Deep Vision Catch / Release Unit.
We have also developed a new Trawl Performance Recorder and we will soon release our new Skipper Assistant that uses Machine Learning technology to help you maintain your trawl performance in all conditions.

SYM7 Symmetry Control monitors the direction of water flow into the trawl and adjusts the wire tensions automatically to get the water flow directly into the trawl. This makes the net symmetric and well spread even when towing in strong tides and along slopes.

SYM 7 Towing Power indicator calculates the force that is being used to pull the trawl gear through the sea. Trawl Pull is calculated from wire tensions, taking depth and door spread into account. It will not take many tows for the skipper to determine the correct Tow Power and use this as a reference for adjusting the engine power when towing in changing tides and weather conditions.

SYM7 Snag Detector monitors wire pull and winch movement to detect when the trawl tends to get fast on the bottom. The Snag Detector will give an early warning when a trawl door starts to snag and alert the skipper to monitor the situation.

SYM 7 is prepared for Deep Vision Catch/Release Control
Our Sister Company Scantrol Deep Vision has developed a vision-based system for marine research that measures fish in the trawl. The system is already used in marine research, and a model for commercial trawling that can be used together with SYM 7 to monitor the catch and release unwanted fish is in the pipeline.

We have created a dedicated research vessel model of SYM 7 which ensures that all trawl hauls are carried out with precision and repeatability.
SYM 7 can be used together with Deep Vision to sample the fish in the trawl and control the Catch or Release unit to bring on board only the fish you need for biological sampling.
The research model can be combined with our new mTrack AHC controller if you need Active Heave Compensation on your scientific winches.
Do you prefer Electric or Hydraulic Winches?
SYM 7 can be used with both new and existing electric or hydraulic winches.
For larger vessels, the trend is to go electric.
For smaller trawlers, hydraulic winches are still the most common, but compact electrical solutions that are suitable for this type of vessel are in the pipeline.
SYM 7 can be configured to control electric or hydraulic winches of any size.
No matter which winch you prefer, SYM 7 will ensure that you always have the right trawl geometry and maintain your catch efficiency in bad weather conditions.
